Back to Basics

I know, I know- I’m a couple of days late… I was meant to post this on Saturday, but down to heaps of washing, life admin and a final few book bits to polish off I thought I’d save this post for a little Monday pick-me-up (or some beginning of the week outfit inspiration, if you’re feeling a little lack lustre starting the week)!

So, let me fill you in on the last few days! With a gorgeous mid-week wedding in Lincoln (that’s Charlotte’s incase you hadn’t spotted it),  these pictures were taken just before we hopped on the train (with no less than about 20 seconds before it left) from St Pancras up to the ‘shire. Obviously we got the stations muddled up, and casually strolled into Kings Cross before realising we were in fact leaving from St. Pancras- fashionably nearly missing trains as always, us!

It was such a beautiful day, and getting to spend a night in Lincoln with Joe was lovely too. We so rarely get to go out alone together and have ‘date nights’, so we beelined for the cinema (which was seemingly world’s biggest Odeon) and caught Official Secrets (a toss up between that and The Shining. Ahem), which was absolutely amazing. I honestly didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I did (‘what do you mean it’s not got Hugh Grant/Jennifer Anniston in it?!’) but it was such an important and relevant film, and anything with Keira Knightley in it gets a thumbs up too…

So, mixed with a wedding, and lots of post-wedding catching up to do with work, it brings us back to Monday. The house is a little tidier, the fridge a little emptier and I’m all up to speed on Strictly (which naturally brings a week of content- is that what they say)?

But the outfit! I feel like since getting my haircut (which I might not have stopped talking about), everything in my wardrobe feels new and it’s like trying everything on again for the first time (which sounds somewhere between revolutionary and lame doesn’t it)? It’s so funny what a few inches off can do for dressing, and although I’m still treading the line between what looks too twee or toddler with a bob, I’m loving having a bit of a new zest for things in my wardrobe that were gathering dust, and restyling them in a slightly different way…

So let me introduce you to a couple of favourite pieces in my wardrobe at the moment. The trousers were picked up this summer from Solid and Striped, and although they probably won’t be warm enough for much longer, look amazing with a black body or chunky knit as well as something a little sharper like this shirt. They’re pretty flared, but I love how ‘retro’ they feel, and also come with a circle belt too for an extra dose of sixties (never a bad thing, IMO).

I was also sent this shirt from Basic Rights, a brand I’d heard about largely through Joe (the cool customer)- but have always loved their tailoring and shapes. They have an eye for really classic era-defying pieces, an open cuban collar and their shirts are some of my favourites for styling with jeans and pieces that otherwise feel overtly feminine- which absolutely  makes this my Tranquility Base Hotel tribute look. Plus, they also had this Bowie Heroes jacket which is arguably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen- so are definitely one to keep on your radar.

And that’s where we’re at! I’m starting Monday with a hospital appointment (incase you thought it was all cool shirts and train rides to nice places), but have a bit of a busy week planned (including a little brunch for my Papier collection which should be fun too)! We’ve also got another visit back to Scotland on the cards, so I’m hoping it’s a good one! Have a lovely week too friends!
