It’s been a hot minute since I last sat down and spoke skincare on here. Despite having changed seasons, typically a lot of the things I’ve been using have stayed the same- and although I did a video not so long ago talking through some new loves I thought it best to put it into words and share a handful of the new products that have firmly wriggled their way into my routine.
Unlike some wonderful beauty bloggers- I’m definitely not someone who gets round to trying lots of things and knows the inside and out about what I should or shouldn’t be putting on my face (y’know, bar the obvious).
A lot of trial and error, and despite the fact I am trying to iron out a routine ahead of the wedding (more on that soon), I feel like I’m in a place where I know what works, how my skin will behave and what really is worth spending money on- wahoo!
Okay, so this is probably the newest addition to my skincare arsenal and one that I’m possibly most excited about. Knowing the bare minimum about skincare, one thing I do know is that retinol is about as en vogue as a pair of Ganni cowboy boots. IT’S TRENDY. But, unlike cowboy boots, this stuff is a silent worker. It quietly gets on with the job at night- hydrating and minimising redness and fine lines without making any statements (other than a little initial dryness). Having used various retinols in the past, my skin was quick to shrivel up a little (arguably because the % was too high)- but this seems to strike a balance perfectly between moisture and performance, without drying me out either. I’ve been using it for the last few weeks, and have been getting on incredibly well with it, so I shall keep you updated! So far, so good!
Alongside the retinol, I’ve embarrassingly only just started using an SPF alongside it. It shouldn’t have taken using retinol to encourage me to apply SPF daily, but I’m sure it’s a better-late-than-never case! Opting for the Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging SPF 25 (which I was kindly gifted alongside the retinol)- it makes for a gorgeous day cream and base under foundation- free of oil but packed with moisture to avoid dryness.
Before my moisturiser I’ve also started using a serum! I know! How adult! Three Step Sally over here! After being advised to add a little bit of Vitamin B into my skincare for ~srs~ hydration following a facial, I pulled out this Drunk Elephant B-Hydra Intensive Hydration Serum and it’s been working a treat. I’m the first person to see dehydration appear on my forehead, and this has kept any stiffness (or sitting make up) at bay. I use it morning and evening, and it’s been glorious for these heating-fuelled working from home days.
Finally, the last word on moisture, I promise! I picked up this Pixi Rose Ceramide Cream whilst in M&S, and in-between the nights I’m using the retinol moisturiser, this is what I load up with. A deliciously rich plumping moisturiser which just so happens to lock in and retain moisture (clue was in the ceramides), this feels truly luxurious to apply before bed and also has the most gorgeous light citrus scent- what more could you ask for?
This is a bit of a wild card addition, but on Sunday morning I had a bit of spare time and fancied doing a quick facial (I know, so very fancy). Having received this new cleansing duo from Charlotte Tilbury which looked like a bit of a power pairing, I decided to give them a go and pretend I was in my very own Mayfair exclusive spa (ahem). With Ritual 1 consisting of a citrus oil, it melts away any make up or impurities as you massage it on- before you apply a hot cloth to cleanse it away. The second step is a charcoal cleanser, which truly offers a deep yet gentle clean, and leaves skin feeling completely squeaky and cleansed- and ultimately, like you’ve just had a mini facial- jobs a good ‘un! It was such an unexpected treat and took less than 5 minutes to do- so perfect for a quick pamper if you’re in a rush in the morning too!
