Having seen pictures of Mykonos, it’s cobbled winding lane ways- awash with vibrants whites, turquoises and hidden church’s- I could only imagine how beautiful the island was in real life…
It’s somewhere that has graced my Instagram feed about as many times as a cool new Realisation Par dress, and despite it appearing so regularly, in so many lights- the magic had yet to wear off.
And there we were- pulling up to the town a little after seven thirty- and seemingly just as the centre seemed to buzz to life with cabs, bikes and people arriving in sync. With boats bobbing and pulling in on the harbour and the sun getting lower in the sky- we wandered in to the midst of everything, in search of dinner and perhaps a couple of gelato spots on our list too.
There was something about Mykonos Town that reminded me of Venice. The bustle, the little overflowing streets- some with laundry, some with gizmos to buy. The street side restaurants with the clattering of plates and the passers by that inevitably stopped to eye up dinner as you sat down to people watch. It was busy, a little chaotic at times- and completely beautiful all at once. It’s exactly like you’d imagine it, and all for an evening I could have been Donna in Mamma Mia (just without the amazing hair and personality for spontaneity)…

It was only when going back through the pictures, that I realised how few I’d actually taken whilst wandering around the town. I had this attitude when we were there that because it was a ‘holiday’ I wanted to embrace things, and think of experiences over anything else, but really it made me realise how, on holiday- or at home- I just bloody love documenting things, that’s why I started this site after all! Taking photos isn’t something I find laborious or tasking, in fact quite the opposite. Sometimes switching off doesn’t have to be the whole hog, but eliminating the elements that create stress, rather than everything at once.
Anyway- I digress! We did manage a few more snaps (coming up in a little guide later this week), but as the sun went down (and we wandered around full of pasta, we were more than happy to get lost with each other, before being collected before the clock struck midnight- I’m not that spontaneous after all…

August 2, 2018 at 10:47 amWow, Mykonos looks like a mixture of Santorini and Chania! I just loved being on a Greek island this year with the warm nights and relaxing time. The favourite thing, though, was the sunsets. They are gorgeous down there!!
