A couple of weeks ago, I was invited along (with a few of my favourite ladies) for a night at the quintessentially English, The Rectory– a country hotel which perfectly encapsulates everything beautiful about the British countryside (in short, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many butterflies and bumble bees in one place in my life).
Set amongst the stone cottages and rolling green hills of the Cotswolds, the hotel feels a lot further from London than it really is- and made for the perfect one night respite after a busy few days previously.
Although I’ll be talking about the hotel in full detail later this week (trust me there’s a lot of enormous interior kudos coming your way), I thought I’d strip things back with a little outfit post to start with- pulling my imaginary Alyssa Miller poses out (a girl can dream) and a shirt that could seem only apt in the wardrobe of a certain Mr Darcy (or Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia, as I learnt this weekend).

This outfit was one of those ‘oh my god I have no idea what to ever wear’ looks, and turns out- it’s one of my favourite things I’ve put on lately. There’s something quite vintage and seventies about some cropped flares and a blouse that has more ‘18th century poet’ about it than twentieth century fox- and paired with this little velvet bag from L.K Bennett (which I’m sure adds a certain pizzazz to even the most simple of get ups) I felt like the perfect balance of ‘hey I’ve made an effort’ and no shoes bohemian- because after all, isn’t a country manor amongst the flowers the perfect place for a bit of bare foot flailing?

I also wanted to talk a little about my somewhat growing jewellery collection. On the podcast Charlotte joked that towards the end of summer her wardrobe tends to accumulate enough accessories that by September she looks like captain Jack Sparrow- and if Im being honest, I think I’m going a similar way. For a girl who never used to wear anything but two studs in her ears, I’m now never without my two necklaces, at least a couple of pairs of hoops in (told ya me hearties) and a couple of my favourite rings from Chupi and Astley Clarke– both of which have that vintage heirloom feel about them, but without the price tag and inaccessibility (my luck with antique jewellery is yet to be of note).
Anyway- I’ll be back shortly with more details on this gorgeous little hideaway- I’m already planning my return with Joe and Maggie…

July 25, 2018 at 10:05 pmI can totally feel the Mr Darcy vibe in the blouse, and I could not approve more! It’s a lovely blouse for the British summer (although maybe a bit too much fabric for this bloody heatwave…)
