It’s day 2 of Giftmas and today it’s all about your female lead…
The starring role in your life! Award winning brilliance! And whether that’s your best friend, sister-in-law, mum, work wife, aunty or nan, there is something deeply satisfying about treating the wonder women in your life to something special. I feel like these are the presents I spend the most time poring over- opening tens of tabs trying to pick the one thing that I feel sums up how special they are to me (whilst also trying to pick something they’ll love too). Quite often, for these special humans- I end up veering down the ‘what would I like to receive’ alley; very much opting for gifts that I would selfishly love to unwrap myself (with the absolute no brainers for me always being: a good pair of pyjamas, jewellery (and not in a fancy and very pricey little blue box kind of way), a fresh notebook, candles, a new lipstick or something sentimental). The hard thing is simply remaining in budget and not getting swept up in a ‘one for them, one for me, one for them…’ state of shopping either. But hey, sometimes you have to just check…
Unintentionally, this year I seem to have focussed a little more on accessories, and small treasures for the twinkly eyed magpie. I very rarely ever treat myself to anything sparkly, so coming across brands like Bertie’s Studio Bowe this year have been a total treat. I’m completely obsessed with her joyful, handmade jewels and love the fact they’re carefully crafted from vintage beads too. Each one is unique and they just feel like a little piece of sunshine when you’re wearing them- she is one talented woman! And speaking of talented women, sunshine woman numero deux, Angela Scanlon, and her brand frkl. has collaborated with TBCo. (home of some of my absolute favourite jammies, with 30% off everything right now) on the most gorgeous scarf pin. It’s unlike anything else I’ve seen, and love the idea of wearing it with everything from a triangle scarf, on a beret, denim jacket or kilt too. It’s very, very cool indeed.
And when it comes to jewellery, I don’t think you have to spend a fortune, or buy brand new to gift true treasure. Earlier this year my friend Bea bought me the most beautiful vintage earrings and not only are they one in a million, but they’re unlike anything I have too. And for someone who already has a dreamy collection? The retro-inspired travel cases from Daisy London are beautiful bedside keepsakes too. Another not-so-secret favourite place for excellent accessories is Sézane. Far more than just perfect knitwear and timeless leather bags (is there anything they can’t do); the earrings and hair accessories they do always blow me away and are always exceptional quality (and beautifully packaged) too.
Plus, I know it’s cliché, but I can cross my heart that I will never, ever tire of receiving a nice pair of pyjamas or nightwear at Christmas. Ever. Like socks, I feel like giving PJs at Christmas gets a bad rep (although, like jim-jams I will never be disappointed with some fancy Le Bon Shoppe’s). Undeniably, If Only If do some of the most beautiful seasonal nightwear (the tartan and gingham is stuff of dreams), but I also love their socks, slippers and hot water bottle covers for thoughtful presents too.
If they’re big on their beauty, I don’t think you can go wrong with a good mascara or lipstick. I’d always start with Lisa Eldridge for reds, Violette for beautiful balms and Jones Road for your-lips-but-better nudes. The Victoria Beckham mascara also remains one of my all time favourites and always feels like a real treat.
And finally! One of this years favourite discoveries comes from Mora; the most beautiful handmade frames built for your gorgeous photo booth strips and customisable with 73 different colour and style combinations. Framing things and finding homes for photos (that isn’t on my fridge) seems to be a job I may never get on top of, so having someone do this for you would be a hugely thoughtful gift (even better if they fancied coming round with a nail and a hammer to put it up)! Mora’s orders have closed until January, *but* a little birdie has informed me they’re launching gift cards too (so you can let you lucky recipient pick their own combination)- so give them a follow for updates!
And if my bestie budget was limitless I’d also be picking up these too…
- Something Cosy: Last year I asked for a bonnet from Budgie Club and their knits have remained some of my absolute favourites. The collars! The jumpers- all heaven, and in the most gorgeous fluffy colours and designs. I’m also in love with the sailor collars and new bonnette’s from Straw London (Emily has the most beautiful eye for curation), and I also think these mittens from Amateur Weather Observers are adorable.
- Something lovely to-do : Who is saying no to the offer of a spa day? The offer of a facial, massage or gift of simply being horizontal is a small slice of heaven, but I also love the idea of a craft workshop somewhere like Paper Stories , an evening of painting and wine at Pinot and Picasso or a ceramics workshop too.
- Something to their door: I know I’ve mentioned Uncut Stems previously, but a gorgeous flower subscription is a really special gift (especially one that means they can play florist in their own kitchen). Petalon are another wonderful option, as well as Smith and Munson too.
I’ve also added previous links to guides for your bestie if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!
