An Ultimate List of Feel Good Films (with the best rom-coms around, if I say so…)

I’ve had a wobbly week (Liv, it’s Monday), have got my period and don’t know when I’ll next get to see my family again- and I’m unfortunately sure 100% of you will relate to at least one part of that too. So- throwing a stab in the dark here, might I suggest that it may be time to settle in to one of the below?

After asking Instagram for the finest chick flicks (a term which caused much discussion- with my stance being that we need to ‘reclaim’ the genre and celebrate it, in a nutshell)- lots of wonderful people online came to my rescue and supplied one of the heartiest (and heartfelt) lists of films I’ve ever seen. Obviously once you start scrolling, you’ll realise these films span all genres- from romance, drama, family, comedy and musical- with few tears left unshed too. Comprised of a list of films I turn to again and again when I need a lift, to the ones that you all love wholly too- hopefully you’ll find something to pick you up in these continually uncertain times- whether you’re after a love story, total weepy, big-town sing-a-long or a ‘SHIT! I haven’t seen that in years!’

As a disclaimer, I haven’t seen all of these, but based on your recommendations I’ve tried to categorize to the best of my ability and include near enough everything (I think!) that I think you’ll devour quicker than a batch of Anna’s cookies

Throw me a classic!
Bridget Jones (all of them) – Notting Hill – Dirty Dancing – Footloose – You’ve Got Mail – Legally Blonde – Jerry Maguire – Ever After – Roman Holiday – While You Were Sleeping – Four Weddings and a Funeral – Serendipity – Breakfast at Tiffanys – The Holiday – My Big Fat Greek Wedding – Pride and Prejudice – Emma (either version) – Muriel’s Wedding – Bridesmaids
I WANT FILMS WITH SONGS I WILL SING ALL WEEK PLEASE

I’d quite like to just… let it all out with a weepy
Brooklyn – The Notebook – The Theory of Everything – About Time – P.S I Love You – Up – A Star Is Born
I want to be soppy (and still maintain that I like a ‘cool’ film)…
500 Days of Summer – Call Me By Your Name – Moonrise Kindgom – Amelie – Almost Famous – Empire Records – The Boat That Rocked

Give me teenage BRILLIANCE!
She’s All That – Never Been Kissed – The Perks of Being A Wallflower – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – 13 Going On 30 – Ladybird – Me Without You – Josie and the Pussycats – 10 Things I Hate About You – Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion

For when you want to keep things platonic…
Clueless – The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel – Little Women – Wonder – What We Did On Our Holiday – The Grand Budapest Hotel – Booksmart – Erin Brockovich – Chef – Hidden Figures – The Peanut Butter Falcon – 20th Century Women – Big – Mrs Doubtfire – The Help
Actually- can we just do a TV show?
Schitt’s Creek – Modern Family – Brooklyn 99 – Crazy Ex Girlfriend – Never Have I Ever – New Girl – Gilmore Girls – The Darling Buds of May – Derry Girls – Normal People – The Durrells
JUST DON’T CHECK THE ROTTEN TOMATOES RATINGS…

Are there any others that should be added? The bigger the hair/the more songs the better!

x

I wanted to tell you my favourite Sound of Music trivia that will lead you to some movies I really love ? The boy who plays Friedrich in the Sound of Music is actually a famous Australian actor and he is in one of my favourite movies ever called Emerald City. It is an Australian movie set in Sydney starring a young Nicole Kidman and a great laugh. He is also in a movie called Ladies in Black that is set in a fancy Sydney department store and is very funny as the floor manager. There are so many gorgeous dresses and wonderful actresses, I’m positive you’ld really like them both.

Thank you for taking the time to put together this list, just what I needed for a boost on a flat kind of Tuesday. Now just to choose which one to watch first…!

Just one key film missing: Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging. This was THE movie (and books) for me and my friends when we were teenagers (and I still secretly love the soundtrack).

Love this list!! I keep coming back to it when I’m craving a film, but can’t decide on which. I’d also recommend A Little Chaos! Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman are so utterly charming ❤️ Xx

That is one impressive list! And I haven’t watched a ton of these yet. I will keep it around for when I need to find something to watch.
Thank you for putting it all together!
My boyfriend desperately wants to show me The Hundred Foot Journey, so now may be the time 🙂
