As London Fashion Week rolls around, there’s always talks of whether there’s a real necessity for bloggers to attend, and for years I’ve always tip toed around not quite knowing whether to ‘do LFW’ in the all or nothing sense, or sit back and admire the hairspray, models and new collections from the sidelines.
After doing my first fashion week with Cosmopolitan when I began blogging- which was arguably one of the most exciting times for me, it feels like after that it’s always been a show here or there, and this year I think I feel fully comfortable just enjoying the buzz of the city and feeling no pressure whatsoever. No FOMO- no missing out and just seeing everything from an outsiders perspective, which really makes quite a nice change.
Although I’ve had a couple of invites here and there, and as much as I know I’ll be in awe of Alexa Chung’s show and endless fluffy tulle from Molly Goddard- sometimes it’s nice not knowing whether you’d essentially qualify for an invitation- and just enjoy the shows for really what they are, invite or not.
As with anything, taking a moment to step back has me desperate to go whole hog next time- I’ve still never done Paris or Milan, and there is something seemingly glamorous about outfit changes, and dashing in taxi’s from one show to the next- I’m just as swept up in it as the next person. I’d go to the opening of an envelope in New York, let alone a bloody fashion show, people! It’s amazing to watch things silently sewn together last minute before a catwalk, with gaggles of models lining up backstage- and I truly believe that no matter how long I’m in the industry for, that won’t ever lose it’s shine or magic. There’s always been that SATC spell on fashion week for me, and as happy as I am to not worry about keeping up appearances, it’s still something that has a piece of my heart.
So, despite not having an agenda for this season- I still managed to rush into town to catch the shiny new launch of the gorgeous new Mulberry store on Regent Street- and apparently dressed up in belated Wimbledon whites for the occasion. With one of my favourite ever brands, Reformation finally launching in the UK this summer (can I get a hip hip?) it was so exciting to be able to parade around in some customs-free pick ups from their Brown’s concession- which hosts some of their true OG pieces and some new exclusives too- I don’t think I’ve ever been so sartorially excited!
With their button up jeans being perfectly true to size, and their little florals being some of my favourites, it felt like the perfect farewell to summer look- barrette clip and fluffy jumper et al! I know I’ll be getting plenty more wear out of the jeans as it gets cooler though- so stay tuned and watch this space…
