adjective
1.
relating to a wannabe-Parisian.
“she cited Jane Birkin as a style icon and wanted to be known as fauxrisian”
…I’m trying ok, I’M TRYING! Although I’m sure fauxrisian isn’t something a genuinely cool or nonchalant person would ever include in their vocabulary (don’t laugh at me, Frenchies), I’m sure as anything it’s an accurate description of what the internet is loving sartorially right now- and therefore I’m claiming the word (and using my cyber footprint) to mark it as mine.
So, let’s be thankful that we’re in a bit of a ~trend~ period again, where timeless- or even retro styling is at the forefront once more. I’m in love with everything eighties (by way of the forties) with big shoulders, polka dots and heart shaped necklines- as well as berets, cat eyed shades and CIRCLES EVERYWHERE. I didn’t think there would be a time where I became genuinely infatuated with everything Julia Roberts wore from Pretty Woman and Notting Hill (okay, maybe I did)- but I’m liking it.

Plus, it’s exciting how vintage shopping is actually having a moment again. FINALLY. There was a period in 2008 where it would have been near acceptable for me to start paying rent at Beyond Retro on Cheshire Street. Victorian inspired ankle boots and tea dresses were all I cared about, and now I’m finally starting to appreciate the ‘what goes around comes around’ element of fashion- even if it was only ten years ago when I fell the first time (which even typing makes me feel old). I even realised last night that The Maccabees ‘First Love’ is ELEVEN YEARS OLD and now I’m suddenly wondering if I’ve outstayed my welcome online.
Anyway- this brings me nicely on to the main topic of today’s post (or does it?)- the cord. Although it was the gorgeous Kelly who I first saw in this particular pair, I can assure you both of my granddads have been reppin’ these long before a certain Ms. Marant made them ‘cool’ again last year. Yup, that’s right- Graham and Fred are both way ahead of the curve, so I can only thank them for genetically gifting me an eye for a pair of velvety ribbed slacks (amongst other arguably more important things too)- and it’s safe to say I’m wondering where they have been all my life. Not only are they warm, ooze serious That Seventies Show vibes- but I’m pretty sure I saw a certain Jeanne wearing some recently- and if that doesn’t give them the full 10/10 then I don’t know what will. It’ll take a lot more than some corduroy to make me cool, but in the meantime I’ll give it a go (and pop on my 2008 indie playlist whilst I’m at it)…

January 25, 2018 at 9:25 amThis outfit is GORGEOUS on you!! That hat is a PERFECT touch. Thanks for sharing your inspiration too, ’cause I absolutely adore your style. I have a soft spot for vintage myself. And I’m totally new to the “fauxrisian” term but I have a feeling I’ll be morphing into one soon, haha!
Have a lovely rest of the week, Liv.

January 25, 2018 at 10:25 amI love this outfit! Julia Roberts in Notting Hill is indeed outfit goals (I haven’t seen Pretty Woman in years so don’t remember much about it!) and you’ve pretty much nailed it here! I can totally understand your sentiments about being ‘Fauxrisian’ too – before I moved to the UK I was a massive anglophile, so I defintiely get what it’s like to be infatuated with another culture so much!
Ps. Your 2008 indie playlist is SO good!
