What do you think of when you think back-to-school? In London (by way of Oxbridge) I think of traditional stooping red brick buildings, bicycles with wicker baskets (and young ‘uns with wicker hats), piles and piles of dog eared text books and the sense of anticipation and excitement. When Nina Ricci got in touch to introduce me to their beautiful fragrances (me having beat them to the chase, and already been a lover- we’ve all seen their beautiful adverts I’m sure), they asked me to create a post around that aforementioned theme, and I knew exactly the place to visit in the capital. Although a new perfume isn’t exactly like a new pencil case to most (does anyone remember that thrill?), there’s always a sense of nostalgia hidden in certain scents, and this feminine and fresh scent from Nina is the perfect partner to my ultimate academic inspired look.
On top of that, to me this outfit feels a little like a belated tribute to the start of term look. When I was in sixth form I probably had a little too much fun donning a suit and loafers to school every day (if that doesn’t sound lame and nerdy, I don’t know what does)- and would opt for a ribbon tie n order to try and ‘girlie’ it up a little. I also remember Florence Welch wearing a burgundy suit way back when and falling head over heels with it’s androgynous feel, so perhaps this is an ode to her and wearing a suit near enough every day for two years- I think I miss it a little…
