There are only a handful of people whose style I constantly refer to, drawing inspiration from their ageless wearable looks- and one of those people is without a doubt, Jane Birkin. I mean, who can resist a LBD, denim bell bottoms and a slightly cheeky French love song? Having been a bit of a fan girl for several years now (so much so- that when I missed her Taschen book signing last year, I was more than a little upset- but the less said about that, the better), followed her style thanks to beautiful blogs such as Becky’s; and after receiving Andrew Birkin’s ‘Jane & Serge’ book for my birthday from my best friend- her sixties looks have been a constant source of inspiration, and that’s without mentioning the breathtaking photography (which makes me pretty keen to pull out my OM10 again and get me into a dark room)…
Anyway- to celebrate popping to the pop up at Proud Chelsea last week I donned the most appropriate outfit I could, and took this Bella Freud piece out for it’s first wear. It took a lot of umming-and-aahing before I finally saved up and picked it up (trust me, I’m definitely not blasé about special purchases), but I’m so glad I did- and I’d like to think Ms Birkin would be proud too- now just to dig out my wicker basket!
