A couple of weeks ago, on a rainy weekday evening Kristabel and I scuttled over to the Soho Beyond Retro branch for an introduction (and brief history) on Beatnik fashion, before a screening of the new Coen bro’s film, Inside Llewyn Davis (JT, cute cats and Adam Driver? Oh go on then)! Now, if you’ve read my blog for any length of time- you’ll probably know I have a bit of an affinity with fashion from the fifties to seventies, so learning a little more about one of leading trends, pre mod and hippy- was pretty interesting.
With women’s Beatnik style built from a wardrobe of black turtle necks (think Audrey Hepburn in ‘Funny Face’), straight cigarette pants, pale faces (trust me, I have all bases covered), breton striped jerseys and mannish duffle coats- I like to think I’ve found a niche my style happily sits in- and this subtly inspired outfit was all but a happy accident.
