A Sit Down & Catch Up…

After reading several candid blog posts last week (including Josie’s gorgeous blog), it made me realise I hadn’t done a proper sit down diary like catch up in a really long time over here on the blog- and ironically, it’s those candid, personal posts that I truly love the most when I read other peoples blogs.

The fleeting thoughts, the intimate behind the scenes moments and a peek behind the velvet curtain and glossy holidays…

It’s the reason I started blogging- to share the bits that sometimes we forget to document and the moments we forget to share before life gets in the way. I remember so clearly sharing things like my first ever fancy pair of Russell & Bromley loafers over here and the bits from my photography A-Level that I thought could act as portfolio work. I was interviewed for a piece for Cosmopolitan magazine this week, and even reading that back takes me back to day dot here, so I thought I’d finally sit down and bring you all up to speed (no less with some nifty bullet points)…

Nearly One Year On…

I can’t quite believe it’s been a little over a year since we first put the offer in on our house. HOW FAST HAS THAT GONE. I remember viewing the house like it was yesterday- walking in and meeting the estate agent, taking off our shoes because the carpets looked so fresh and clean (oh how time does fly) and going round and getting a total buzz because I knew already it was the one. I then remember the days going back with our parents and showing it off like it was already ours, and then going for a Byron nearby because it all felt so real and adult (and sometimes the one thing that brings you back to earth is a good greasy burger and fries). Although we moved in in the July, I can’t believe how much has happened in these 10 fast months, and I’m very excited to have lots of interiors content up my sleeve coming soon- especially now that we’ve finally made headway on the ol’ decorating front…

Save The Date…

And whilst we’re on the topic of adult chat- wedding prep! Another thing I can’t believe. Although we booked our venue a month or so ago, this weekend I spent a lot of time browsing through stationery and ordering some samples so we can finally get our save the dates sent out (!) I had an incredibly exciting meeting on Friday centred largely around wedding chat (which you’ll find out about very, very soon) which really got my behind in gear, and I’ve since been folding pages in magazines and seriously thinking about dresses and finding ~the one~. I have a handful of lists that suggest when you’re meant to be getting things ticked off by, and with this month marking a year ‘til the big day I’m excited to be sharing things along the way- starting with a video this weekend…

And Switching Off…

I touched on this in my newsletter last week, but being #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek I wanted to have a little chat over here about it too. After being hit with the comparison bug in a big way last week (largely down to a certain time of the month), it truly made me sit down and think about the kind of pressure we can put ourselves under and the effect it has on us. I’ve gone from feeling 100 to 0 in regards to my capabilities, and constantly feeling unsure of yourself can be incredibly exhausting. Additionally, last weekend- looking through old pictures, it made me so aware as well of how attuned to our ‘quirks’ the internet makes us too.

There are parts of my body and small personal characteristics that only this year I’ve started to notice (but have always had), largely down to strangers online and me placing myself against others- or others indirectly pointing out. It’s such a peculiar place to have a perspective on yourself, and if I’ve learnt anything- it’s how much kinder we need to be to others and ourselves. Hindsight and perspective is a powerful thing- but knowing that truly #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek is every week and looking after yourself is always number one is certainly the first step.

And Finally!

Some listening! I feel like I haven’t shared many podcast updates on the blog at all since it started, but if you’re either new around here or didn’t realise- then hello! I also have a podcast! I’ve spoken a little more about it here, but in the last few weeks Charlotte and I have discussed everything from body image, Instagram v Real Life and buying and renting houses in your twenties and thirties. On top of that, we also extensively natter on about t.v, shopping and have plenty of giggles in-between. You can download it over on the Acast app or on iTunes here.

So yes! That’s all with me at the moment folks, how have you been? It’s always so nice seeing and hearing from some of you that have been hanging around for a while- so thank you endlessly for all your support as ever, and if you’d like to see more posts like this too then please let me know!

x

This is such a lovely post Liv, so much seems to have been going on and I hope you continue the self care that you deserve to nip the comparison bug in the bud! It is lovely to hear you talk so honestly about something that you really struggle with and I for one would love to see more catch up style, diary posts. I’ve been good thank you and have been following you for about a two years now! Like you I had a short trip to university, deciding it wasn’t for me, but am so excited to be starting an online Interior Design degree in a few weeks time – nothing worth having comes easy I guess.

Ah thank you for the shoutout (again!) Glossy posts are fun but the candid ones are just as interesting – I think it’s because humans are pretty nosy! Sorry you’ve had a bit of a wobble lately, it definitely happens to us all. I think the people who are unkind are probably not very nice to themselves either, the problem is nearly always with them and absolutely no reflection of you at all. I also think the main reason people, including myself, love your blog and channels is because your kindness and authenticity always shines through which is pretty rare in the ‘blog world’ these days so I don’t think you have any need to compare as you’re fab as you are! x
