I feel like in the last couple of years I’ve truly realised the magic of a good outfit and it’s power of making you feel a certain way. I was reading Alice’s post on this whilst in bed this morning and it truly captured how I’ve been feeling about my wardrobe lately. After a few difficult days recently I found myself becoming lazier with dressing (things all got a bit Kyle from the View with my jeans habit), and it was only after these technicolor-Joseph trousers of dreams arrived that I finally picked myself up, with them truly are the injection of cheer my wardrobe needed.
Honestly? Initially I definitely wasn’t sure I’d be brave enough for them. I’ve definitely found myself in a sartorial comfort zone lately, but I think pushing yourself out of it can work wonders for your confidence- a wardrobe cliff dive of sorts. I was watching Clemmie on Instagram and one thing she said stuck with me. After receiving a message from a woman who was feeling less than confident in her wardrobe, she put on a dress after thinking she ‘didn’t look good in it’ or it ‘didn’t fit her properly any more’, and received compliments on her outfit, proving in fact the total opposite.
I know it’s something we’re all incredibly good at (me especially), but after braving these brights yesterday I felt better than I had in a long time. They’re definitely head turners (that I can be sure of), but if anyone has a problem about the way you dress, I promise it says more about them than you. I know next time I need a lift I’ll be reaching for these again. So, if like me you’ve been in a wardrobe slump- pull out something you’ve not worn in a while, try it on and see what happens. Because if I can brave looking like a beach towel (a beautiful one no less), we can all do it.
