The living room is the heart of any house, isn’t it? The place where I (shouldn’t but do) spend hours working, sit with a lap tray tucking into bowls of Joe’s spag bol on a Wednesday night, watch Mary Berry bake on a slow Sunday morning and free afternoons curled up with a magazine on our squishy sofa.
We’ve now been here for a warm summer and a cosy Christmas- and seeing the room with both twinkly lights and a Christmas tree, filled with our friends on New Years has just made me love it all the more. So, seeing as I’ve definitely been a little slow on the interiors content since moving in, I thought I’d reignite things this year with a small tour of our living room. Although you’ve probably seen peeps of this spot before (and over on YouTube too if you’ve got eagle eyes) I thought I’d properly show you around, and hopefully set the tone for some more little interiors tours as the year goes on.
Now, out of all of the rooms in our house, the living room was arguably the one that we finished the speediest. Despite being tempted to switch things up in regards to painting, with the walls being a gorgeous blueish shade of grey, rather than paint over them- we let them help direct the style of furniture and design we opted for in the room, which we both absolutely love and probably would have chosen ourselves (hey, we can always change them)!
Prints (listed here), TV Cabinet, Rug, Candle, Small Pleasures, Mirror, Sofa, Lights, Wall Hanging, Pillow, Knitted Blanket, Grey Blanket & here
Although we didn’t order any furniture before we’d moved in (I was a bit worried I’d tempt fate by buying a sofa before we had the keys) we knew we wanted to check out the sofa selection at MADE, and were so thrilled with the pink chair and teal velvet sofa we opted for- not only are they beautifully designed, but they’re wonderfully cosy (and look equally lovely piled high with blankets for when it’s chilly too). We’ve also dotted them with cushions from Trouva, Marks & Spencer and one from my family in California too.
Other main furniture attractions come from our MADE bookshelves (similar here) which we’ve positively packed with some of our favourite things. These include (but are not limited to); photographs, coffee table books, candles and other sentimental objects- including a 2CV my dad gave me (after the car he had when I was a baby), an old Olympus film camera I received about 5 years ago and a frame from my brother too. These were one of the hardest things in the room to style, but we desperately tried to not worry about ~trends~ too much here, and just make sure there were enough of our favourite things on show and not just objects for style. Obviously one looks to Kate for ultimate shelfie styling, and I think we’ve found a nice balance of combining both of our personal tastes as well as what suits the room aesthetically too.
Some of my favourite candles in our space…
SOH Melbourne / Evermore / Diptyque / Jo Malone / Elizabeth Arden / Replica / Bella Freud
Pink Chair, Made Shelves (similar here), Cactus Vases (and here), Postcard, Illustration
Another of my favourite pieces in the room is our West Elm media cabinet where our TV sits and all of the boxes it comes with (that I still don’t really understand) live. It’s the perfect size for our alcove (where we struggled to find another that would) and adds a really gorgeous mid-century touch, something we both really love in the house. We also recently picked up this Anthropologie rug after a long old search, and although it’s slightly similar to the infamous La Redoute one, we love the fact this is slightly lighter and definitely adds a little homely somethin’ to the space.
Magazine Side Table, Footstool
I won’t natter on about prints endlessly (especially as I’ve already touched on them a lot here)- but one thing I did pick up recently after an uncontrollable Etsy scroll was this wall hanging from Little Low that says ‘get cozy’- which is not only perfectly apt but coordinates with our wall/blankets/snuggle ethos too ; )
I hope you enjoyed this post- I’ve linked as much as I can, but any questions and I’ll definitely let you know! I’m really excited to share more corners of our home too! We’re currently redecorating my office space, so stay tuned for how that goes- the paint samples have been bought and carpenters emailed so adulting is a go-go! You heard it here first!
