Notes on Layering

I’ve always struggled when it comes to transitioning more summer inspired pieces into autumn. I was never going to be one to do some Avril Lavigne t-shirt inspired layering when it came to packing away favourite jersey pieces, but when it comes to floaty dresses and beautiful sheer blouses- I’m always sure they can be given a second lease of life as things start to get cooler.

Although I’m prone to throwing a jumper over anything that doesn’t look particularly warm- with a dress as beautiful as this French Connection maxi (which I’d have never thought to layer full stop)- it was actually throwing a roll neck underneath that solved all of my sartorial temperature dilemmas. Who’d have thunk it? Feeling inspired by something I’m sure I’ve scrolled past on Instagram and or Pinterest- this little knit under dress combination may be a new favourite wardrobe fix.

Paired with my most worn boots of this winter (because patent also equals waterproof) and the only style of hat that I think matters at the moment (all hail the chic fauxrisian beret!) it was nice on a chilly October afternoon to try something new with my wardrobe, having fallen into a bit of a jumper – jeans – trainers funk the moment the weather gets colder.

And it’s safe to say French Connection have also been coming up trumps when it comes to being a total high street hero this season too. With this skirt also sitting pretty in my wardrobe (all the sixties and seventies feels), the pair have really added a little life into a sea of denim and knitwear. I’m definitely partial to heading to the same shops when shopping on the high street too, so rediscovering a bit of FCUK has definitely encouraged me to rediscover some old favourites too. Good job, FC!
