It’s The Eighties

(Glasses: C/O & other stories, dress: C/O & other stories, Bag: Radley (similar here), Shoes: Castaner, Necklace: C/O & other stories, Earrings: Dinny Hall)

Until recently I’d always thought my love of the eighties started and ended with Wham, my mums Bananarama inspired perm (then, not now) and Patrick Swayze. My idea of dressing for the decade was limited to an ill fitting pair of American Apprel (R.I.P) disco pants- and I was certain that it didn’t extend to shoulder pads, earrings so statement they could be from your Nana’s Christmas deccy box and balloon sleeves teamed with tapered trousers- but life (and style) likes to surprise us, doesn’t it?

Having seen similar on Mango and Topshop (amongst some other high street favourites)- this polka dot number felt like the perfect middle ground between something vintage inspired and effortlessly current too. The low neck and subtle slits definitely make it a little more modern- and although it might be a pair of kitten courts away from being a bit Dynasty (that’s what a dropped elasticated ruched waist does for you) I have definitely become partial to taking style inspiration from an era otherwise neglected for style (bar anything fancy dress or Flash Dance)- and if that means nodding to Ms. Collins over Chung now and again I think we have a convert.
