From The Archive: 2013

With magazine placements on the side, 2013 was the last year I juggled blogging as a side gig. Things get a bit girlier in the style department too, with a lorra love for the sixties and a 'hive!

When talking about French style, the words ‘black’ ‘grey’ and ‘chic’ are often the three most thrown about- with the natural je ne sais quoi just something that comes with it, and until I recently paid a visit to the Comptoir Des Cotonniers press day- it wasn’t something I was overly familiar with- and damn, what I’d give to be a French girl now I’ve seen it first hand.

In general, you can almost certainly be sure that if a press day has the presence of the uber talented Amelie Gillier (Comptoir’s new creative director, and co founder and artistic director of Zadig and Voltaire from 21), a host of babin’ French models in the new collection and Nutella crepes- you can be assured it’ll be a good one. Having worked one of their stores in my days of retail in West London, I’d admired the store from afar- but it wasn’t until I got to appreciate the little details close up and see how far they’ve come as a brand- that I really fell in love. The new collection has the kind of pieces awesome French chicks like Melody Prochet and Lou Doillon would rock (don’t even start me) and each piece oozes the ‘Oh this? I just threw this on, but yes it looks perfect’ vibe.

Now, writing this in a bright Christmas knit and jeans I’ve had since I was 16 (I know, I know)- it’s hard to ever imagine looking as cool as the model in the lookbook– but given a little bit of effortless-effort and a collection this beautiful, maybe come Spring, it may happen- merci Comptoir!
