From The Archive: 2013

With magazine placements on the side, 2013 was the last year I juggled blogging as a side gig. Things get a bit girlier in the style department too, with a lorra love for the sixties and a 'hive!

Now, it’s not often I see something I love in the sales, let alone something I’ve waited for. However, upon browsing the Urban Outfitters sale a few weeks ago, I spotted this House of Hackney dress online (palm prints? Tick!), with my size being one of the last remaining (fate? I think so). Now- don’t get me wrong, it still wasn’t cheap (and trust me, I wouldn’t normally part with much for an item of clothing), but with a handy extra discount and a little bit of savings- I headed to checkout, and I’m so glad I did (even for the fantastic quality alone). Additionally, on the House of Hackney site they even have matching wallpaper and furniture in this print (as they do with all of their dresses and furniture)- which had me at hello, and if I hadn’t already decorated I know what my walls would be looking like right now…

…But it’s not just clothing I hunt for in the sales- on top of that, it’s no secret how much of a stationary hoarder I am (I even managed to pack one in my holiday suitcase) and yes, in school I was that child who got over excited by the pre-term W H Smiths trips. But nonetheless, there is nothing more satisfying than jotting notes, making lists (oh how I love a list) and writing letters and postcards whilst on holiday- even if 3 weeks after getting home, they still haven’t made it in the post yet (one day, I hope!)

So, when Florence of Petit Renard Rouge got in touch telling me about her hand book binding company, I got pretty excited. Not only does she give old beautiful novels a new lease of life by binding them into stunning notebooks (including original pages and covers), but she managed to source a beautiful The Catcher in the Rye hardback for me especially (yes, they really make perfect gifts)- which was top of my packing list for sunny Spain, and even came with me on little photographic adventures- but hey, you never know where the next bout of inspiration may come from…
