From The Archive: 2013

With magazine placements on the side, 2013 was the last year I juggled blogging as a side gig. Things get a bit girlier in the style department too, with a lorra love for the sixties and a 'hive!

If there’s one thing that defines British summertime, it’s strolling along Brighton seafront during the golden hour, with only the chill of the cool sea breeze, the squawk of seagulls and smell of vinegary fish and chips reminding you that you’re still on the South coast. Still, it was the perfect opportunity to start taking some of my summer wardrobe for a spin during the Great Escape, making the most of the sunshine and the seasonally correct temperature (which, touch wood, appears to have arrived).

Opting for a tasseled kimono (I finally braved it, Mulan better watch it), a beautiful paisley sparkled crop top (the idea of revealing my belly button to the world made me feel like some kind of mild mannered harlot, but I think the jeans remedied this) and my favourite high waisted jeans from American Apparel- I managed to tick off a few trends I’d been meaning to dip my toes into (but have been a little wimpy about)- and I was pretty happy with the outcome. Although it was a little cool to not have my over sized cardigan and leather jacket just out of shot (sneaky right) I’m looking forward to gettin’ all Coachella on you come festival season in things like this with the addition of wellies and mud…

(Diana, Beach Fossils, Melody’s Echo Chamber, Temples, Klaxons)

Anyway, here are some of my favourite photos from this years festival. I was lucky enough to be able to take my baby (read: camera) into the venues, so was able to attempt getting some shots (although many were pretty busy/I was too busy slicing up the dance floor). Additionally, it goes without saying a lot of the venues were pretty cosy, so the fear of being that person in a hat and with a big camera who wasn’t in the pit, was a little too much. Needless to say, the above acts were some of my favourites (will someone allow me a slice of Melody Prochet’s coolness? Just a slither?) and I seriously recommend you take a listen…
